2014 Jets' Regular Season Schedule Breakdown

The 2014 NFL regular season schedule has finally been released.  I see the Jets finishing with a 10-6 record and a wildcard birth if the chips fall right.  Here is my week to week breakdown, as well as predicted scores, for the Jets' 2014 regular season:
Week 1 - Oakland (Home)
Geno Smith gets the week 1 start for the green and white and leads the team to a close 24-23 victory.  Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory rush for 40 combined carries and 150 yards, also punching in 2 scores on the ground.  The defense holds on the final possession of the game.

Week 2 - Green Bay (Away)
Newly acquired Julius Peppers and premiere edge rusher Clay Matthews get to the quarterback in this one, sacking Geno Smith a total of 5 times.  Geno is also strip sacked for a scoop and score touchdown and throws a late pick to seal the deal.  Packers win 31-17.

Week 3 - Chicago (Home)
The Jets are primed to rebound on monday night following a weak showing against the Packers.  The Jets' play tough allowing Bears running back Matt Forte only 80 yards rushing on the day.  It doesn't matter however as Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey torch the Jets weak secondary for 250 yards receiving combined and 4 touchdown receptions.  Geno plays better but it's not enough.  Bears win
35 - 27.

Week 4 - Detroit (Home)
For the third week in a row the Jets face off against an NFC North foe.  Despite a huge game from Calvin Johsnon, the Jets find a way to win in this matchup.  Geno Smith rushes for 2 scores and throws for 1 more.  The Chris and Chris running back tandem for the Jets' continues to effectively carry a large role, as the Jets attempt only 17 pass attempts against a daunting Lions front line.  The Jets go turnover free for the first time all season and sneak out a close 23 - 17 victory.

Week 5 - San Diego (Away)
A crucial game for the green and white before they play Denver and New England back to back.  The Jets understand the importance of this game and go out and take care of business, adding to the notion that the team always plays well against the Chargers.  Milliner does a nice job against Keenan Allen, holding him to less than 80 yards receiving.  Milliner also adds his first interception of the 2014 campaign.  The Jets run the ball down the Chargers throat for a 31 - 13 slaughter.

Week 6 - Denver (Home)
The defending AFC Champions come into town.  Peyton throws an early interception to Dee Milliner but the Broncos rebound quickly.  Ware and Miller wear down the Jets offensive line all game, as the Broncos finish with 6 sacks on the day.  Peyton quickly forgets his early turnover and throws for over 400 yards and 4 touchdown passes.  Former Bronco and newly aqcuired Jets receiver Eric Decker is quite on the day only catching 2 passes for a measly 14 yards.  Broncos triumph 38 - 10.

Week 7 - New England (Away)
Coming off a beating from the Broncos, this short week matchup against the Patriots wont be any kinder to the Jets.  New England is firing on all cylinders from the get go.  The Jets look flat and lethargic from the get go, and Bellichek's squad takes advantage.  Interceptions from Revis and McCourty cap a great day for New England.  Geno struggles again and the "boo birds" are out.  Speculation of Mike Vick getting the start against Buffalo begin to louden.  Pats win 27 - 16, after the Jets score a meaningless touchdown with 30 seconds remaining.

Week 8 - Buffalo (Home)
A well rested Jets squad really rebounds nicely.  Geno gets the nod at quarterback and proves the decision to be right.  He throws for over 300 yards for the first time all season as the Jets win a close one over the Bills.  Eric Decker explodes for the first time as a Jet for a 125 yard, 2 touchdown game.
The Bills begin to rally at the end but a clutch sack from Wilkerson seals the deal late in the 4th quarter.  Jets win 20 - 13.

Week 9 - Kansas City (Away)
KC continues to struggle on the season proving last season to be a fluke.  Dwayne Bowe struggles to get open against Milliner and the "Sons of Anarchy" stifle Jamaal Charles all day long.  The Jets offense is slow off the gate but a 80 yard touchdown scamper from Chris Johnson lights the fire for the Jets.  The Jets play stellar defense and pound the rock to a 17 - 7 hard fought victory.

Week 10 - Pittsburgh (Home)
Pittsburgh and the Jets square off in a huge game with large wild card implications on the line.  In an old style brusining game both teams rush for over 150 yards on 40 plus rushing attempts each.  The quarterbacks are quiet until Ben Roethlisberger hits Antonio Brown for a first down on a 4th down conversion on the final drive of the game.  The Steelers kick a 38 yard field goal as time expires for a 17 - 16 victory over the Jets.

Week 11 - Bye

Week 12 - Buffalo (Away)
On a snowy, cold late November day the 2 teams face off in a turnover fest for the ages.  The teams combine for 5 turnovers and only 430 yards of combined offense.  Neither team can get going as the score is tied at 13 midway through the 4th quarter.  Jets newly signed kick returner Jacoby Ford houses a kickoff for a 99 yard return.  The return is the final score of the game and the Jets win 20 - 13.

Week 13 - Miami (Home)
This Monday night showdown against the Phins will be one for the record books.  Both teams look incredible playing hard nosed good quality offensive and defensive football.  Ryan Tannehill breaks through a late would be sack from Sheldon Richardson and finds Lamar Miller who somehow finds the endzone.  Mike Wallace goes for 100 yards and 2 scores in the game.  Phins 31 - 23 over the Jets.

Week 14 - Minnesota (Away)
The metrodome is gone and the weather is cold.  Real cold.  Sub zero temperatures stifle the passing game.  Somehow the Jets manage to contain AP to 115 yards on 33 carries.  Ivory carries the ball for 22 times and 2 scores from within 5 yards.  The Jets win 23 - 20.

Week 15 - Tennesee (Away)
Chris Johnson tears it up in his return to the Music City.  Johnson turns back the clock to 2009 on his way to 210 yards rushing and 3 scores on the day.  His remarkable performance earns him the AFC Ground Player of the week award and earns his team a blowout victory.  Jets take down the Titans 28 - 12.

Week 16 - New England (Home)
Eric Decker and Co. play much better this time around against New England.  Revis makes no plays and is held quite against his old home crowd at MetLife Stadium.  Decker catches a touchdown pass and Johnson and Ivory go for 180 on the ground.  Brady throws a late touchdown pass but the Jets recover an onside kick for the win.  Jets 27 - 24 over the Pats.

Week 17 - Miami (Away)
After reeling off 3 straight victories to bring them to 9 wins the Jets are on the brink of making the playoffs.  HUGE playoff implications are on the line in this game to add to the atmosphere of a heated divisional rivalry game.  New England already has clinched the divison so both the Phins and Jets are fighting for a playoff birth.  In a desperate battle between the 2 teams the Jets prevail.  In a low scoring slugfest the Jets outrush the Dolphins with clutch performances from Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, and even Bilal Powell.  The Jets rush the ball 55 attempts on the game and win 17 - 14 to clinch a wildcard spot.
